The Daring Bakers Make Pavlovas

Before I started blogging, I would always turn to the same recipes when I was asked to bake something. The same chocolate cookies, the same lemon bars, and the same chocolate cupcakes. There was no doubt that theses recipes got worn out after some time, but they were “tried-and-true”, so I stuck with them. I hadn’t yet been exposed to the wonderful world of food blogs, bursting with recipes and creativity, so it was no surprise that the said recipes made a frequent appearance at our house. Eventually, I did tire of them, and I decided that it was time to thoroughly explore the “blogosphere” in hope that I would find new recipes to keep me busy.

Lemon Ice Cream Sandwiches

As June comes to an end, the school year finally comes to a close.  Summer vacation is here, and while I should be excited and relishing the prospects of an enjoyable summer, I can’t help but feel lost.  Summer put a stop to my comfortable routine, leaving me feel disoriented and out-of-place. With school no longer here to occupy me, I have a copious amount of time to myself.  So much in fact, that I’m not always sure how to spend it.  On this first morning of my long-awaited vacation, I’ve already finished reading a book, I’ve checked and replied to all my email, and I’ve read my daily dose of food blogs, leaving me with nothing more to do than enjoy the fact that school is out for the year, and that I’m finished with middle school. Vanilla Bean Cupcakes

“Eww! Don’t you rinse your toothbrush under the water before putting it in your mouth?”, my friend asked at a sleepover the other day.  She thought the toothpaste stuck to the roof of your mouth if you didn’t rinse it first.

I had never given much thought to the way I brush my teeth. But my friend was right; it was much more pleasant to rinse the toothbrush under water before putting it in my mouth. I just always stuck the toothbrush straight into my mouth, without giving it a second thought.

There are some things that, no matter how unpleasant, I do just one way. I now try to remember to rinse the toothbrush under water first, because it makes brushing your teeth much more enjoyable and effective too. Read the rest of this entry »
